Society seeking members

The Singletarian Society of Martin and St. Lucie counties are looking for new members between 57 and 70. Members must be widows, widowers or divorced. Meets second Thursday of every month.

Classes for dads

The Nurturing Father's class is offered free to all St. Lucie County men by the Father & Child Connection program. Class meets each Wednesday, 2 p.m. Offers fathers the tools to sharpen parenting skills and find creative ways to connect with their children.

Classes meet at the Garden City Early Learning Academy, Community Annex.

Free classes at center

Learn the basics of conversational Spanish at the Harvest Food & Outreach Center. Classes are free and meet every Monday for six months from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The St. Lucie County Cooperative Extension Office/University of Florida IFAS will present a weekly series of classes at the Fort Pierce campus of Harvest Food and Outreach Center, each Tuesday at 4 p.m., these classes are free of charge. Space is limited.

Garden happenings

Qi gong exercise is offered at Heathcote Botanical Gardens. Gentle and easy to learn, it promotes circulation, good health, and relaxation. Wear loose clothing and thin-soled, flat shoes. Every Tuesday, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Free for Heathcote members, $6 for non-members. Consult your physician before beginning any exercise program.

Athletic league program schedule

The Fort Pierce Police Athletic League is offering free educational assessments for ages 15-21 years at the PAL Center, 1401 N. 2nd St. in Fort Pierce. Following the assessment, a professional evaluation will be provided, giving you an opportunity to begin an individual educational program targeting specific needs and goals.

All local youth, ages 11-17, are invited to participate in the programs provided by the Fort Pierce Police Athletic League. The PAL Center is open from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

Group accepting new riders

American Legion Post No. 358 is accepting new Legion Riders at its meeting, held on the first Sunday of each month at 10 a.m. at American Legion Post No. 358, 4350 Oleander Ave., White City.

Get in shape at the rec center

The St. Lucie County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting line dancing for beginners at the Fort Pierce Community Center from 6:45-8 p.m.

Dancers will learn the basic steps to the hottest country music. The class is a four-week session beginning on the first Monday of the month.

Please bring comfortable footwear and a bottle of water. Cost is $20 per month or $6 per class.

Slimnastics is a low-impact, low-stress program that involves stretching, toning and movement to achieve overall fitness. The class meets each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. Cost is $8 per month.

Jazzercise is a great way to get in shape and stay in shape. Taught by Sandi Hellstrom, Jazzercise provides a good aerobic exercise in a fun, friendly environment. The class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. Cost is $10 per class, with multi-class plans available.

Take advantage of free safety training

Businesses and companies ready to make safety on the worksite a priority can take advantage of the free OSHA safety training available through the Indian River Community College corporate and community training institute.

Training consists of the 10- and 30-hour OSHA construction and safety health course, and addresses the recognition of safety and the prevention of construction hazards.

Classes are now available in both English and Spanish. After completion, participants receive an OSHA card and may be eligible to receive college and CEU credit.
