Making friends at Pelican Island

Mckayla Cloran, 3, of Vero Lake Estates, admires, from afar, a red rat snake at the Pelican Island Wildlife Festival in Riverview Park on March 16. The festival honored America's first National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1903, with live wildlife shows by the Treasure Coast Wildlife Center and the Treasure Coast Herpetological Society. Other booths included The Pelican Island Preservation Society, U.S Fish and Wildlife Service, the Pelican Island Audubon Society, artists and sculptors displaying their wildlife art.
