Sheriff reaches out to community
Rating: 4.71 / 5 (7 votes)

To the editor:

The tragic events that occurred on the morning of February 28 are now familiar to the people of our area: St. Lucie County Sheriff's Sgt. Gary Morales died in the line of duty making a traffic stop just south of Fort Pierce. A 25-year-old defendant was immediately arrested and faces murder charges.

As I and our Sheriff's Office family reached out to the Morales family, you, the members of the community, reached out to them and to us in ways too numerous to mention.

The outpouring of support for the Morales family and for us by this wonderful community has been, and will continue to be of immeasurable comfort.

I would like to thank the people of St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast for opening your hearts to us at such a traumatic time.

Ken J. Mascara

Sheriff of St. Lucie County
