New doctor bring expertise of exotic animals

MELBOURNE -- From his time at an animal hospital in the New York City area, Dr. Roger Welton knows that a lack of intimacy is not something he wants his animal hospital to have.
"In a New York City area, they have a big practice with high-end medicine, but it lacks the intimacy and the ability to spend time with clients and build relationships," said Dr. Welton, D.V.M veterinary medicine and surgery at Maybeck Animal Hospital in Melbourne.
Since taking over the animal hospital in 2004, Dr. Welton has made it his mission to ensure that every pet is treated as a member of the Maybeck family, rather than just another patient.
"I want to bring that level of medicine from a big city but with an attraction to a small-town atmosphere," Dr. Welton said. "They are family here. That is what we try and create is a small town atmosphere of everyone knowing your name, but the medicine is second to none."
Maybeck Animal Hospital offers a variety of care for pets of all kinds. Since the addition of Dr. David Fogelberg from Aloha Animal Hospital in Indian Harbour Beach, pets of all kinds can receive one-stop pet care, including general medicine, surgery, acupuncture therapy, grooming, boarding and emergency medicine during business hours.
While Dr. Welton's primary focus is on cats and dogs, Dr. Fogelberg brings with him a wide knowledge and expertise for exotic animals.
Along with a plethora of treatment, Maybeck Animal Hospital offers a top-of-the-line social media interaction. After a pet's first exam, a profile will be created on the hospital website, specifically designed for the needs of the pet.
Also, with easy accessibility to Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites, owners can view their pet's profile, refill prescriptions and shop online for discounted products.
Also, the pet's profile keeps track of immunization records, so, if an owner is out in public and needs to display their pet's records quickly, the profile serves as this information.
As a biochemistry major, Dr. Welton found his veterinary calling due to his love of science and animals.
"Science, for me, explains everything very nicely," he said. "It's quantifiable. I have a love of medicine and animals, so it is the perfect way to live for me."
For the future, Dr. Welton hopes to expand his business into a Mayo-Clinic design, where each floor of the clinic is dedicated to a certain specialty, so owners can have even more of a one-stop experience.
"We own all of the land back to the Olive Garden, so I would love to put up a state-of-the-art Mayo-Clinic Facility," he said. "We have all of the space, so there is no interruption of care. Every floor would be its own specialty."
Maybeck Animal Hospital is located at 2600 W. New Haven Ave. in Melbourne.
