The Artist Workshop and Marine Discovery Center will host Lagoonacy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at 520 and 540 Barracuda Blvd., New Smyrna Beach. The event is a celebration of Mosquito Lagoon.
There will be marine exhibits, touch tanks, oyster mat making, estuary exploration, a kayak clinic from 10 a.m. to noon, creatures of the lagoon parade at 11 a.m. and a cardboard boat race at 3 p.m.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. will showcase Taylor Magone's Eagle Scout Project.
The Mid-Coast Fly Fishers are going to demonstrate fly tying and casting. They also will have some displays available for people to understand the fun and art of fly-fishing.
At the same site, the Artists' Workshop Members Annual Show will be on exhibit along with many activities for adults and children. Children's activities will go on all day. Children's mask making will be hosted by Art is ... Creation with Regina Wise, and volunteers Judy Mullee, Lucinda Sloan, Mary Setter, Ginger Branscomb, Debbie Moore, Jan Rook, Nita Dollies Lager inside the Artists' Workshop Studios.
Members of the Artists' Workshop will demonstrate and involve visitors in "Big Art Painting" with Jean Banas and Sue Reynolds; and ceramics with Louise Lieber and Margaret Anglin. Member docents will be available in each studio. There will be an art market to purchase art books and art supplies. Information will be available highlighting workshops, classes for adults and children and registration for summer art camp.
Artists will have booths set up to market their own work while plein air painters will be painting on location at Lagoonacy.
There is no admission charge. Vendors will be available to purchase food, drinks and gifts.
