Dinner and wine tasting benefits museum's educational programming

The Museum of Florida Art's "Saluti A Italia!" A Celebration of the Senses will be Thursday, March 21.

The evening is dedicated to supporting the Museum of Florida Art's educational programming

Taste the award-winning wines from the Tuscan hilltop of Castello Romitorio, learn fine art of wine making by Antonio Chia, experience the visual impact of one of Italy's premier contemporary artists Sandro Chia and indulge in an intimate four-course dinner by one of Florida's finest chefs,

Hari Pulapaka of Cress Restaurant.

The Wine Tasting & Antipasto will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the museum, 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. Cost is $50 per person.

Gourmet dinner to follow at Cress, 103 W. Indiana Ave. DeLand. Cost is $150 per person.

Call for 'green' artists

The sponsors of the DeLand Art Walk are seeking artists interested in promoting their work for a March 22 event.

"Green" is the theme and artists are encouraged to select any "green" topic of their choice -- something ecological or environmental, or simply art compositions in green (Think of Kermit!).

The Walk, a monthly event endorsed by the Mainstreet DeLand Association, offers area artists the opportunity to showcase, promote and sell their artistic creations among the merchants of DeLand's historic downtown.

Sculptors sought

The Deland Sculpture Walk is in need of artists.

Deadline for entry is May 1. Entry fee is $25 non-refundable. Artists may submit up to three works.

Twelve to 18 finalists will be selected for installation in downtown DeLand.

Each finalists with art chosen for downtown will receive $1,000.

Installation will be in October. An opening reception will be on Oct. 17.

Museum classes on words and other events

"Transformative Storytelling: Converting Images and Objects to Words" will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at 100 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

This program is presented by author, storyteller and facilitator Margery Pabst to include story creations and fun exercises based on provided images or objects you wish to bring in of your own.

Cost is $12 for members and $16 for non-members.

Girls Night Out Wine Glass Painting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21.

Glass artist Vera Rekstad will share the techniques and helpful hints to create a pair of wine glasses to take home. Bring a pair of wineglasses or other glasses of your choice, or purchase them at the class for $5 each.

Cost is $18 for members or $22 non-members

Class size is limited. A fused glass workshop will be at 10 a.m. Saturdays, March 23 and April 20.

Ms. Rekstad will conduct a two class workshop. Learn how to make fused glass jewelry as well as other objects of fusible and dichroic glass, fired in a kiln. Each participant will create at least two pendants, or one pendant and one pair of earrings. Additional pieces can be made for an additional charge.

Cost is $50 for members or $60 for non-members
