Posted: 2013 Mar 15 - 06:02

Blue Ridge, a popular gospel music quartet, will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Coronado Community United Methodist Church, 201 S. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach.

The concert is free, but a good-will offering will be taken for the benefit of the performers.

"This quartet, from Franklin, N.C., combines rich vocal harmonies with an exciting program of gospel music that both young and old will enjoy," said Anita Wimbish, Coronado's Director of Music Ministries.

"Blue Ridge blends gospel music, serious thoughts and light-hearted moments into each program they present. The group has been singing together for more than 25 years and has toured extensively throughout the United States, as well as Canada," she added.

More information about Coronado Church is available at www.coronadoumc.org or the church office at (386) 428-6252.

Spirituality & Spaceflight Presentation planned

The New Smyrna Beach Church of Christ will host a talk by Mike O'Neal on Spirituality & Spaceflight at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 17, 1340 Old Mission Road.

Many of the nation's astronauts are viewed as men and women of great intellect and courage, but many are also men and women of great faith. This multi-media presentation looks at the role spirituality has played in human space flight.

Mr. O'Neal worked for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center for more than 31 years, where he was awarded the agency's Outstanding Leadership Medal and two Exceptional Service Medals.

Prior to his retirement, he completed a special assignment with the Florida Space Research Institute where he investigated mechanisms to provide spiritual support for astronauts.

He is the author of two books published by 21st Century Christian, "An Angel's View: Encountering God through the Stories of the Heavenly Hosts" and "Holy God, Holy People."

He is writing a book on spirituality's role in the U.S. Space Program.

Lenten cantata slated

The Coronado Chancel Choir with orchestra will present "At the 9th Hour," a Lenten cantata documenting the events of Holy Week, at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Coronado Community United Methodist Church, 201 S. Peninsula Ave., New Smyrna Beach.
