On Wednesday, February 27 at 8:41 p.m., Port St. Lucie Police Officers responded to 1179 S.W. Estaugh Ave., in reference to loud music complaint. At 11:03 p.m., officers responded back to the residence in reference to a domestic situation. When officers arrived on scene they were met by family members, (spouse 47, daughter 12, and son 15) who advised Robert Frey II (DOB 10-20-58, 1179 S.W. Estaugh Ave., Port St. Lucie) had armed himself with a shotgun. Contact was made with Mr. Frey and he refused to come out of the residence. Mr. Frey made threats of suicide during the initial standoff.

At approximately 1:10 a.m., Mr. Frey exited the rear of the residence with a shotgun. In an attempt to disarm Mr. Frey, Sgt. Darin Howie engaged Mr. Frey with a less lethal, Special Impact Munitions, hitting Mr. Frey twice in the torso. Mr. Frey began to retreat back to his residence and returned fire at officers, striking Lt. Ronald Caudell, in the left lower leg. Lt. Caudell was removed from the scene and transported to the hospital where he was subsequently treated and released later in the morning.

Mr. Frey barricaded himself in the house. Port St. Lucie Police S.W.A.T. and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to scene. At 5:23 p.m. negotiators were successful in their attempt to have Mr. Frey surrender to police. Mr. Frey exited the residence and was taken into custody by S.W.A.T. without further incident.

He was charged with attempted murder, battery and resisting arrest with violence.
