VERO BEACH - FlexFitness is offering the class Yoga: Restore twice a week free of charge to cancer survivors.
Yoga: Restore is an hour-long class that combines gentle yoga poses and therapeutic body rolling. Students are led through a series of poses that are held for an extended period of time, allowing for a deep release. Followed by therapeutic body rolling using a foam roller, major muscle groups are rolled out.
Research indicates that yoga can help alleviate the symptoms of cancer and help individuals battle the disease by reducing stress levels.
There are social benefits as well. Yoga is a place where people find a connection with others. Just as those with terminal illnesses who participate in support groups live longer, cancer patients who practice yoga fare better.
Body rolling is gaining popularity across the country as its enormous health benefits are recognized. It improves circulation and blood flow while breaking down soft tissue adhesions and scar tissue. As a result, people who roll regularly gain increased flexibility and range of motion.
By combining these two modalities, restorative yoga and body rolling, FlexFitness' Yoga: Restore class is an ideal environment for enhancing the healing process.
Yoga: Restore will be free of charge for cancer survivors from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays.
