INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Adult Education is accepting applications for the January 2014 Licensed Practical Nursing program. Information sessions will be held for potential applicants at 5 p.m. on May 16, June 20, July 25, and August 8 at the Gifford Medical Academy. The academy is located at 4680 28th Court, Vero Beach. The program will start in January 2014 and takes one year to complete. Students will attend during the day, Monday through Friday for approximately 35 hours per week.

A daytime Certified Nursing Assistant course will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Class will begin on April 3 and run through May 30 and is held at the Gifford Medical Academy site. Cost is $894.

Adult Education will be offering a 165-hour Phlebotomy course for individuals who are new to working in the medical field. The course will be held April 22 through June 6 and will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Cost is $674. A national certification exam in Phlebotomy is available to students after successful completion of the program. The test costs $105 and students must be 18 years old and attest to having a high school diploma.

A course in Investing Fundamentals is being offered by Adult and Community Education. In this workshop participants will learn ways to increase your investment income, reduce taxes on investments, participate in the stock market, save for retirement or college, and learn about other important investing topics. This class will be held on from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, and the cost is $28.

A one-day EBay workshop will give participants tips and tricks on how to use this popular site. The workshop is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. Cost is $49.

General Education Diploma preparation classes and the GED test are designed so that students can work at their own pace online or in a small, comfortable and quiet setting. All students must register in person and attend a GED orientation. Once GED orientation is completed, students may utilize the online option or attend class. GED classes are available at the Adult Education School in Vero and Sebastian River High School. Cost is $30 per term ($90 per year). The new term began March 1 and runs through June 30.
