HOBE SOUND -- The Hobe Sound Community Chest received a multi-million dollar pledge from Marshall Field V and his wife, Jamee.

Mr. Field is a descendant of the legendary Marshall Field family, recognized around the world as pioneers of American retailing.

The family owned the famous department store in Chicago that grew to become a major chain and the first to feature in-store restaurants for shoppers.

The pledge from Mr. and Mrs. Field, consisting of an initial cash donation of $100,000 and a multi-million dollar bequest, will take the form of a donor-advised endowment fund which will advance HSCC's mission of supporting critical health and human service programs throughout the Treasure Coast that directly benefit those in need in Hobe Sound.

"The Hobe Sound Community Chest wants to ensure that critical social services are available in our community for many decades to come, and generous gifts like this one from the Marshall Field family help us to establish the framework to accomplish that goal and move us closer to realizing our full potential," said Peter S. Pauley, HSCC president. "One of my top priorities is to strengthen our planned giving program, and this gift has certainly laid the foundation for a stronger Community Chest. We'll now have the ability to expand programs to help our friends and neighbors who need a hand, from infants to seniors."

Since 1949, the Hobe Sound Community Chest has been dedicated to providing financial, advisory and volunteer support to nonprofit agencies that provide services to the community. The Community Chest is currently funding 42 local organizations that provide a range of critical services from child care to continuing education to crisis relief.

"My family has lived in the Hobe Sound area for three generations, and we feel very much a part of this wonderful community," said Mr. Field. "As contributors to the Hobe Sound Community Chest for many years, we know that providing major support to the organization is the best way for us to give back to the community that has for so many years been a part of our lives. Our gift is intended to ensure that resources are available through the Community Chest to assist families in need now, and in the future. It is our hope that this gift will be a major enhancement to the already active community betterment effort spearheaded by the Hobe Sound Community Chest. We also hope that our friends and neighbors will join us in establishing their own donor-advised funds and endowment gifts to support HSCC in this effort."

Last year, the HSCC distributed $1,040,360.
