TREASURE COAST --
Karla Cantu has joined Treasure Coast Food Bank as vice president of programs and initiatives. Ms. Cantu will oversee Treasure Coast Food Bank's outreach programs and coordinate with partner agencies.
Ms. Cantu previously held a similar position at Capital Area Food Bank of Texas in Austin, which provides hunger relief to a 21-county area of Texas. She plans to expand and implement many new hunger relief programs on the Treasure Coast, including a summer feeding program, after-school snacks and possibly an evening feeding program.
"I know the vision for the Treasure Coast, and I'm very excited to turn the vision into reality by increasing access to food for those in need, removing barriers that are keeping our families in food lines and by promoting nutrition education, wellness and healthy lifestyles," Ms. Cantu said.
Ms. Cantu has been a part of the Feeding America network for 13 years, serving on the Feeding America Agency Relations National Council for six years and acting as a mentor in Feeding America's Peer Mentoring Program. She also has worked with the Global Food Banking Network's Leadership Institute, which helps expand Food Banks internationally.
Treasure Coast Food Bank is a 501c3 nonprofit organization providing millions of pounds of food to more than 250 charitable organizations in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties.
