BREVARD -- For a chance to meet-and-greet with 40 regional authors, a local book organization is hosting an event for book lovers, organizers said.
On Saturday, March 9, at the Central Brevard Library in Cocoa at 9:30 a.m., members of the local group Authors For Authors said event-goers can meet with authors, who write various genres, including fiction, mystery and non-fiction.
There will also be 45-minute speeches from six authors: Dr. Valerie Allen, Walter Manning, Patricia Charpentier, Roger Simmermaker and Joyce Henderson.
Marshall Frank, local author and one of the creators of the event, said the meet-and-greet gives guests a unique experience.
"This is a small-time event," he said, "but this is for book lovers, who love to talk about books with authors. That's something you can't do at Barnes and Noble. This is for book-lovers and people, who still want to read a paper book."
Mr. Frank said that he and other local authors, Holly Fox Vellekoop and Valerie Allen, created the event together to give self-published authors a chance to get their work recognized.
"It is our job to provide venues for not as well-known authors to have a chance to sell their published works," he said. "I'm an author of 12 books, and, for 10 of them, I have sold them at discount price. It's something you have to do."
Other authors at the event, besides the three creators, include Kay Williamson, Debra John, Mary Dall, Dr. Stevan McCrory, Tara Gabor, Julio Torres and many more.
The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.
The Central Brevard Library is located at 308 Forest Ave. in Cocoa.
