ST. LUCIE COUNTY -- Stevo Gianconteri is used to taking a lot of hard hits. The defensive linebacker from Port St. Lucie and father of two played for the amateur football team Fort Pierce Fire and currently plays for the Treasure Coast Bobcats, but his biggest competition is the battle he's waging against a fast-growing cancer which is attacking his body.
Along with his wife, Elizabeth, and children Lil Stevo, 5, and Gianna, 7 months, his current and former teammates, his colleagues at the City of Fort Pierce and his team of medical professionals, Mr. Gianconteri plans to tackle cancer.
From 4 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 27, the Van Duzer Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta at 2311 South 35th St. in Fort Pierce, directly across from Indian River State College, to help Mr. Giaconteri pay for medical expenses.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Giaconteri family, including food and beverage sales, staff salaries and tips.
There will be raffle items, prizes and a chance to meet the entire Giaconteri family, as well as some of your favorite players from the Treasure Coast Bobcats.
Representatives from Florida's Blood Centers will also be on hand accepting blood donations.
