SATELLITE BEACH -- The Satellite High School 2013 Project Graduation is giving residents a hand at Las Vegas-style casino games, all to help a good cause.
On March 16, the organization will host "Casino Night," an event for residents who are 21 or older that will feature live music, silent auctions and casino tables.
Suzy Fenton, a member of the Satellite High School 2013 Project Graduation Committee, said that, for $25 a ticket, event-goers will receive $5,000 worth of gambling chips that can be used at games of Texas Hold'em, blackjack, craps and roulette.
Beer and wine will also be provided for a small donation, Ms. Fenton said.
Prizes of candles, wine and other locally donated merchandise will be awarded to event-goers, depending on the amount of their winnings.
Ms. Fenton said all funds raised at "Casino Night" will help fund Project Graduation on May 18, which will be held at the Patrick Air Force Base Youth Center, so she encourages the public to attend.
"It's a lot of fun," Ms. Fenton said. "This is our biggest event for the year, and it is an evening of fun, where the entirety of the funds we raise goes toward Project Graduation. The money helps us pay for a fun and safe night for seniors on graduation night."
On Project Graduation night, parents and committee members give graduating seniors a drug- and alcohol-free night of celebration, where seniors can win televisions, laptops and other items for their dorm rooms.
"When my daughter participated, she won a Garmin GPS," Ms. Fenton said. "They have some really nice prizes for the kids, and Satellite parents enjoy getting together, too."
Currently, Project Graduation is looking for sponsorship and auction items for both Project Graduation night and "Casino Night."
"Casino Night" will be March 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the David R. Schechter Community Center in Satellite Beach.
