Covidien names new manager for DeLand plant

Covidien has named Mike McGrew as plant manager for its DeLand facility.

Mr. McGrew has more than 30 years of experience in plant management along with quality and research and development expertise in the medical device industry.

He joined Covidien from Hospira, where he spent the last 20 years in roles of increasing responsibility. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and his graduate degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts, both in mechanical engineering. He is also a registered professional engineer in California and a long-time member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Mr. McGrew is married with three children ranging in ages from 17 to 22 years.

Florida Hospital DeLand selects new quality manager

Florida Hospital DeLand has selected Melissa Gaston to serve as quality manager for clinical effectiveness.

Ms. Gaston will lead the clinical effectiveness team and is responsible for the management of performance improvement programs such as core measures, quest/partnership for patients and other clinical process measures.

She most recently served as the performance improvement coordinator at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast. An Ormond Beach resident, she graduated from Daytona Beach Community College in 2001 with an associate degree in nursing. In 2008, she earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Jacksonville University. She is a member of the Florida Association for Healthcare Quality and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Ms. Gaston is pursuing a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality designation.

Chamber lines up events

The DeLand Area Chamber of Commerce has several upcoming events, beginning with a Business After Hours reception on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The reception begins at 5 p.m. and will be hosted by the West Volusia Business Professionals in Mulligans Tavern at Victory Hills Golf & Country Club, 330 Spalding Way, DeLand.

The chamber education committee meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, in the chamber meeting room.

The DeLand-Orange City Alliance will be at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the Holiday Inn Express, Saxon Boulevard, Orange City. The cost is $3 for members and $10 for non-members.

The chamber will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Funky Trunk Treasures, 100 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.
