FORT PIERCE -- The Muscular Dystrophy Association and Sailorman Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen are teaming up for the 2013 "Appetite for a Cure" campaign to benefit those affected by muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases.

Through March 17, associates at participating Popeyes restaurants will sell $1 coupon cards worth $30 to be used toward free and discounted purchases during future visits.

"MDA is excited to kick off another season of the 'Appetite for a Cure' campaign with Sailormen/Popeyes," said Joanne Bowsman, executive director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association chapter in South Florida.

"We are grateful to have the support of a company that is committed to serving its local communities and helping those affected by neuromuscular disease."

Each coupon card sold will provide Popeyes customers with great discounts, while simultaneously supporting local individuals and families served by the MDA. In 2012, the campaign raised a record $484,797 to support MDA's programs of research and health care services, including MDA summer camp.

"We take pride in supporting the communities we call home, and this coupon card program is a simple and easy way to help those affected by muscle disease and give back to our loyal patrons at the same time," said Bob Berg, CEO of Sailormen. "With help from our dedicated employees and generous customers, we hope to make this year's campaign an even bigger success."

The annual coupon program directly helps local families affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases by helping fund MDA's worldwide research program, as well as MDA's network of more than 200 medical clinics.

Medical services in South Florida are provided through the MDA Clinic at the University of Miami School of Medicine and the Kessenich Family MDA/ALS Center at St. Catherine's Rehabilitation Hospital in Hialeah.

Popeyes is located at 107 South 25th Street, Fort Pierce and 1601 South U.S. 1, Fort Pierce.
