PORT ST. LUCIE -- The third annual Strike Out Hunger fundraiser hosted by The Council on Aging of St. Lucie County at Saint Lucie Lanes is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Feb. 16.
"Meals on Wheels" is a national movement serving the needs of those who would go without proper nutrition except for the service provided by selfless volunteers in our local community. These volunteers maintain continuous and profound positive effects on the lives of others who cannot fend for themselves due to age, illness and infirmity.
At the moment there are more than 500 local seniors who rely on Meals On Wheels for a hot meal and a kind word from volunteers. With the economy still struggling to rebound, their need is even greater than it has ever been before.
The fundraising event will raise money to buy food for Meals on Wheels.
The fun and festivities begin at 3 p.m., when teams of four and individuals take to the lanes.
In addition to a fun-filled day, there are door prizes, goodie bags, a 50/50 drawing and plenty of gifts from local businesses.
For a $25 donation, participants can enjoy two hours of unlimited bowling and free rental shoes.
Opportunities for community-minded people and business sponsors to fund "scholarships" for seniors still exist and lane times for teams are available in three separate shifts. Contestants can choose from start times at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
To sponsor a team for the event and receive free advertising for a business, call the Council on Aging of St. Lucie County office at (772) 336-8608.
