MARTIN COUNTY -- Soroptimist International of Stuart has partnered with Tykes and Teens to sponsor the 2013 Project Northland Poster Contest.
The annual contest encourages Martin County middle school students to create posters highlighting the dangers of underage drinking.
The posters will be displayed at the Martin County Fair from Feb. 9-16, where attendees can earn a prize and show their support for substance abuse prevention by voting for their favorite poster.
Tykes and Teens, a Martin County based nonprofit, administers the Project Northland alcohol prevention curriculum in Martin County middle schools, with the goal of decreasing underage drinking and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
The Tykes and Teens prevention services division also coordinates and supports initiatives that seek to prevent bullying and teen dating.
Soroptimist International of Stuart encourages teen dating violence prevention via the TRUST (Teen Relations Using Safe Tactics) program. The partnership between Tykes and Teens and Soroptimist will allow for the distribution of safe dating information in addition to substance abuse prevention information.
