BREVARD -- For the past 12 years, Cinderella has been renewing her vows to Prince Charming and inviting Brevard County residents to join in on the celebration.
This year's "Cinderella Wedding" will be held at the David R. Schechter Center in Satellite Beach on Saturday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. At the event, all fairytale lovers may don their favorite princess attire and land on the guest list.
Characters such as Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Ariel will be in their best-dressed form, ready for a magical day full of fun and photos. The event will feature snacks, crafts and pampering, and is sure to be a royal treat, said Jill Nelson, the event organizer, who serves as the youth program instructor for the recreation department.
"The idea came about because my daughter was really into the princess thing, and I was trying to create the perfect day for a little girl to be a princess," Mrs. Nelson said. "I added all of her favorite touches: beautiful little foods, crafts, ballroom dancing lessons, pink décor, twinkle lights, princess costumes and all of the stuff she loved to do, and I combined it into one party."
She said she enjoys the elaborate costumes and up-dos that the children-turned-princesses adorn on the day of Cinderella's wedding.
"I just love this party because I love seeing all of the little girls decked out," she said. "I love to hear all of the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from the little ones when they first see the place. Some of their mouths actually drop."
In addition to the actual wedding ceremony, the biggest hits of the event will be crafting personalized wands and tiaras, as well as a chocolate fountain.
Last year's guest list reached about 100 people. This year, Mrs. Nelson said she hopes to see the same excitement for the event.
"Who wouldn't want to spend a few hours in a fairytale?" she said.
The cost to attend "Cinderella's Wedding" is $15 per child, ages 2 to 10 years old, and $7 per adult. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult.
RSVP by Feb. 4 by calling (321) 773-6458 or visiting the David R. Schechter Community Center.
