Longtime friend of ACA dies in Brooklyn

Composer, friend and Atlantic Center for the Arts National Council Member, Butch Morris, 65, died Tuesday in Brooklyn.

Mr. Morris was known for his innovative music making practice referred to as "conduction," short for "conducted improvisation." He defined the word, which he trademarked, as "an improvised duet for ensemble and conductor."

He was an ACA Master Artist in 2006 and served on the ACA National Council since 2007.

Hub to host day trip

The Hub on Canal in New Smyrna Beach will host its first day trip to the Vero Beach Museum of Art on Monday, Feb. 18, for viewing the major exhibition, "The Golden Age of European Painting", from the Speed Museum of Art in Louisville, Ky.

The collection features both the people and objects that made the centuries between 1600 and 1800 such a vibrant cultural age and includes major works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Gainsborough and vanDyck. The Vero Beach Museum is the only venue in the southeastern U.S. for viewing the exhibition.

The tour, escorted by Betty Turco, departs from The Hub on Canal on a luxury motor coach and includes transportation, museum admission and curator guided tour, lunch at an upscale oceanfront restaurant, time to shop Vero's Ocean Drive and all gratuities.

Cost to Hub members is $90; nonmembers $115.

Reservations may be made online at thehuboncanal.org or by calling (386) 957-3924.
