Robert Lang Joins Embry-Riddle as University Controller
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has hired Robert W. Lang as university controller. Mr. Lang was most recently vice president of finance and controller for Apartment Investment Management Co., a national $1.3 billion real estate development firm based in California.
As controller, Mr. Lang will work with the audit, finance, and investment committees of the Board of Trustees and ensure that the university's fiscal practices comply with federal, state and local regulations.
Mr. Lang previously was director of finance and controller for Delta Connection Academy in Sanford and controller of the $1.8 billion Corporate Express Delivery Systems, later purchased by Staples. He also served for seven years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, where he was a financial management officer at USAF bases in New York and Texas.
Scholarship applications being accepted
The Ponce Inlet Women's Club is accepting scholarship applications for its Genesis scholarship.
Applicants must be female and currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program and taking at least six credit hours.
Applicants must reside in Ponce Inlet, Wilbur-by-the-Sea, Daytona Beach Shores, Daytona Beach or Port Orange.)
The scholarship of $1,000 pays for tuition or books. Checks will be made payable directly to the applicant's educational institution.
Deadline for submission of application is April 26.

Americanism contest winners named
The AMVETS Americanism Program is a patriotic program for schools and youth organizations as a resource for teaching children in kindergarten through 12th grade about American heritage, civics and citizenship.
The 2012-2013 winners are:
Kindergarten: Lindsey Larrimore, first place; Jana Rose Holston, both from Cypress Creek
First Grade: Jack Parthemore, first place from Cypress Creek; Aden Lanier, second place from Cypress Creek; and Summer Zyla, third place from Port Orange Elementary.
Second Grade: Aiden Barnes, first place from Cypress Creek; Caiden Patrick Annis, second place from Cypress Creek; and Ella Hansen, third place from Warner Christian Academy.
Third Grade: Kenneth Nickerson, first place from Warner, Brianna Baskin, second place from Warner, and Settem Brina Lucia, third place from Cypress Creek.
Fourth Grade: Ria Kolluru, first place from Cypress Creek; Autumn Thornton, second place from Port Orange Elementary; and Lauren LeBlanc, third place from Port Orange Elementary.

Local AMVETS winners will be entered into the State Americanism contest in February for the next round of judging.
Open house, meet the teacher planned
Calvary Christian Academy will host a new student open house from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 1687 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach.
The academy has classes for kindergarten through 12th grade.
The academy also has a program for infants through children age 5 and the free VPK program for 4-year-old children.
A VPK and Kindergarten Round Up will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19. The Round Up includes a parent and student orientation, tour and meet the teacher session.
