Southeast Volusia Humane Society names executive director
Susan Cooper has been named executive director of the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, while still doing an job as animal care and control manager.
Ms. Cooper has been with the shelter for more than 25 years.
The shelter opens at 10 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 1200 South Glencoe Road, in New Smyrna Beach.

Lecture series for novice inventors: From Innovation to success
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will host a series of four evening lectures by local inventor Dr. James Cairns.
Sponsored by the school's College of Engineering, the lectures will be Feb. 8, 20 and 28, and March 6 in the Willie Miller Instructional Center Auditorium at 600 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Daytona Beach. They are free and open to the public.
The lectures will cover the overall process of inventing, from initial idea to commercialized product, including intellectual property considerations, finding financing, and starting an invention-based business.
Dr. Cairns is a serial entrepreneur who founded Ocean Design Inc. now Teledyne Oil and Gas, the world's leader in subsea electrical and fiber optic interconnect systems.
Each lecture will last an hour and will be followed by questions and discussion.
Beyond the Casey Anthony case: A behind-the-scenes look
A murder case that attracted worldwide attention, Orlando's Casey Anthony case is still attracting attention today.
Dr. Allen Moore, public information officer for the Orange County Corrections Department, will discuss his role in the case during the next meeting of the Volusia/Flagler County Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
The meeting will be Feb. 12 in the Volusia Room of the Daytona Beach International Airport, 700 Catalina Drive. Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the lunch program will start at noon.
