PORT ST. LUCIE -- On March 23, the Tampa Bay Rays and Moffitt Cancer Center are coming to Port St. Lucie Mets Stadium for the sixth-annual spring swing Moffitt's sun safety tour.
The tour offers free skin- cancer screenings at specified baseball spring training venues throughout February and March. Port St. Lucie screenings will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Screeners will look for early signs of skin cancer, while promoting sun safety, skin cancer awareness and education.
During the previous five spring-training seasons, spring swing has screened more than 2,700 people and identified 534 suspected cancerous lesions, including 21 suspected melanomas.
Each screening stop will include free spring swing T-shirts, Blue Lizard Australian sunscreen, and sun safety educational materials and promotional items.
