TREASURE COAST -- Stuart Police raided a marijuana grow house after executing a search warrant on an apartment on Indianola Street last week.
Members of the narcotics units and "taking action against crime" unit executed a search warrant on Jan. 24 after becoming suspicious that a grow house was operating in the Lannon Stone apartment complex.
Officers arrested 46-year-old Daniel Joseph Mahoney of 504 S.W. Indianola St., Apt. 14. In Stuart, and charged him with one count of cultivation of marijuana.
They made the arrest after smelling marijuana on the premises, and executing a search warrant on the unit, said Detective George McLain.
Members of the TAAC unit and a surveillance team monitored the apartment to build a case, while working with narcotics detectives to create probable cause for issuing a search warrant for the apartment.
Investigators found marijuana plants and a small quantity of the drug in the apartment, leading them to arrest the resident.
They would not say whether Mr. Mahoney was growing the drug for recreational or commercial use.
Detective McLain said Mr. Mahoney had no previous arrests related to this case.
Investigators said Mr. Mahoney appeared to be the apartment's sole occupant, and had lived there for about eight years.
At press time, the investigation continued while Mr. Mahoney remained in jail pending $5,000 bond.
