ST. LUCIE COUNTY --
Women and men of St. Lucie County are invited to attend the newly formed Treasure Coast NOW chapter of the National Organization for Women's 40th anniversary celebration of Roe v. Wade which ensures a woman's right to make childbearing choices, free from governmental interference.
The celebration will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 at Good Times (West), 2096 Northwest Courtyard Circle, Port St. Lucie.
Guest speakers include Meredith Ockman, president of Palm Beach County NOW; Sonja Swanson Holbrook, board member of Emergency Medical Assistance and Cory Pfister, president of Pride of the Treasure Coast.
The event is free. Appetizers will be provided by Frank & Al's Pizzeria, and a cash bar will be available.
"For 40 years, NOW and women's rights activists around the country have been fighting to ensure that women have access to the full range of reproductive health care services, including abortion, birth control and prenatal care," said Mindi Fetterman, Treasure Coast NOW president.
"But the struggle continues as far-right extremists continue to attack, passing numerous state anti-abortion laws and pressing for complete defunding of family planning clinics."
