INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Special Olympics of Indian River County would like to thank the Italian American Club of Sebastian.
For the past seven years this organization has unselfishly donated its time and money by volunteering at both Special Olympics area games and Special Olympics state games.
The club's version of volunteering means supplying much-needed tables, chairs, tents, cooks and overall manpower needed to help make these events successful.
The group doesn't limit its volunteering to Special Olympics. For the last several years they have also donated time and energy to work special events at SunUp ARC, a local organization that specializes in the needs of disabled citizens.
The organization also donated $3,575 to Special Olympics of Indian River County.
The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in sharing gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
The ultimate objective of Special Olympics Florida is to help people with intellectual disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.
Special Olympics Indian River County is partnered with SunUp ARC.
