BREVARD -- To raise funding for a safe, family fun-filled evening for graduating seniors this year, the Space Coast High School Project Graduation is hosting a comedy show next month that might make you "very, very sleepy."
"The Simon Sez Comedy Hypnosis Show," starring comedic hypnotist Jon Simon of Florida, will be at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Cocoa on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m.
Vaughan Kimberling, chairman of the SCHS 2013 Project Graduation, said this will be the first time the organization has hosted a hypnotist as a public event during its six-year existence.
"The show is very hilarious. The hypnotist will take members of the audience and hypnotize them," Mr. Kimberling said. "They will be crawling around and barking like dogs on the stage. We have gotten a lot of positive feedback about having this show (from the community)."
Mr. Kimberling said the purpose of Space Coast High School Project Graduation is to provide a safe, drug-free and alcohol-free event for the graduating seniors the night of graduation. The group keeps the seniors off the road until 5:30 in the morning by entertaining them with comedy hypnotists, a coffee bar, carnival games and an overall great time.
Mr. Kimberling said the organization raises funds all year long to pay for the night of entertainment.
Last year, the group raised $25,000, he said, and the organization is hoping for a similar goal this year.
Tickets for the event are $7.50 each, two for $14 or $10 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Dogs-R-Us Grill in Port St. John and are redeemable at the restaurant for 10 percent off of food purchases between Feb. 15 and Feb. 18.
All of the savings redeemed at the restaurant will be donated to the SCHS Project Graduation, event organizers said.
