Spring baseball and softball registration opens
The City of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is taking registration for Youth spring baseball and softball from through Jan. 25 for the Ormond Beach Youth Baseball & Softball Association.
Baseball is for boys ages 7-15 as of April 30; T-Ball is for boys ages 5-6 as of April 20; and, softball is for girls ages 5-17 as of Jan. 1.
Fees are between $45 and $96, depending on activity and age group.
Proof of residency is required. There will be a $5 late fee for registration after Jan. 25 pending availability on teams. Sibling discounts are available. All skill levels are welcome to participate.
Registration may be done online at www.obybsa.com or in person at the Leisure Services Registration Office, 399 N U.S. 1. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3: p.m. Monday-Thursday and 3:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fly fishing seminar scheduled
Mid-Coast Flyfishers will conduct a free fly fishing seminar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 40, 471 Old Mission Road, New Smyrna Beach
Men, women and youth of all ages may participate.
Attend for just an hour or stay for the whole time. The seminar is for beginners, individuals learning to improve their skills, and experienced fly fishers.
Topics include introduction to equipment, fly casting, tying flies that catch fish, fishing knots, fly rod building, utilization of kayaks as well as other vessels for fishing, and areas to fish in the lagoon and river system.
Lunch will be available.

Kids fishing event slated
Halifax Sport Fishing Club will host Kids Can Fish, Too, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Marine Science Center, 100 Lighthouse Drive, Ponce Inlet.

Executive women compete at Halifax Plantation
The Daytona Beach Chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association met New Year's Day for their inaugural event of 2013. Halifax Plantation Golf Club in Ormond Beach was host to 39 participants who were challenged by a Fairways and Putts tournament where the highest score wins.
First place were Paula and Jim Sheedy and Suzanne and Gary Zimmerman with a score of 133. Diane Zeeman, Lea Buckley, Patty Dailey and Suzette Sweeney placed second with 100 and coming in third were Lois and Bob MacDonald and Joan and Bob Mansour with an 83.
Closest to the pins for the women were Joan Gray (Hole No. 6) and Joanne Brown (Hole No. 16).
Closest to the Pins for the men were Jeff Nelson (Hole No. 3) and Gary Zimmerman (Hole No. 13).
The association offers both fun and competitive leagues and events on days and times convenient for all women golfers at all skill levels.

Tennis lessons slated
The Greater Volusia Tennis League will conduct free tennis lessons from Jan. 21 to Feb. 3.
This is a free beginner group tennis lesson from a professional tennis instructor for adults 18 and older. Loaner racquets will be available. For more information, call one of the participating centers.
