More ideas

For those of you who have read the rants I've written and they angered you, good, they should. I talk to people on a daily basis, who have lived in different parts of this country, and when I tell them the articles I've written I get a "good for you" out of them. I'm not looking for that, I'm simply pointing out there's people out there who produce multiple offspring just to keep on welfare. Where does that money come from? The local businesses that send the money off to the government.

Being on welfare should not be a way of life, nor having more kids to increase the money your allocated each month. Increase your knowledge by getting better educated.

There were more shootings in the city again. Aren't the people of that and surrounding areas tired of that? Form small groups and patrol the areas. Approach people "just hanging out" and let them know that you, as a group, are watching the neighborhood. Just an idea.

Now for the person who said I'm not knowledgeable, oh, I'm very aware of what goes on, it just makes me sick to see the welfare people not give a darn about anything except what they can exploit from the government for their wants and needs and have multiple kids from different men. Yes, that makes me sick.

The U.S. was built on individual liberty and the pursuit of your own happiness at your expense, not living off of handouts. Anyhow, enough said you get the point.

McCain's ideas

Sen. John McCain is onto something. He is developing a reputation as a watchdog over wasteful and excessive government spending and has almost two million followers on HashtagShadySandySpending.

Liberals have seized on Sandy as an opportunity for another massive government effort to spend our tax money. Finally, somebody in Washington who is standing up for us. Congratulations, Sen. McCain.

Impeach Weeks

County Superior Court Judge Gregory A. Weeks should be impeached. He has overturned death sentences of three notorious killers. Based on technicalities, he said the unanimous verdicts of juries do not mean anything. His opinion, he believes, trumps jury decisions. No wonder criminals do not fear our so-called system of justice.

Editor's note: Judge Weeks serves in Cumberland County, N.C. The three above-mentioned cases violated the Racial Justice Act of that state. To read more go to www.charlotteobserver.com.

Sleight of hand?

Much as we would like to help people hit by Hurricane Sandy, the big-spenders' $60.4 billion spending scheme is the perfect storm. Some of the funds are supposed to go to fisheries located in Alaska. How is this supposed to be seen as anything but a typical, bureaucratic wish-list spending binge?

It is the usual sleight-of-hand which comes from Washington politicians.

Guns vs. guns

Beware, the truth may hurt. The only thing that will stop bad guys with guns is good guys with guns.

Gun-free zones should immediately be eliminated. Idiots who voted to place gun-free zone signs around schools should be drummed out of office.

Gun control laws have been spectacularly ineffective and crime will never be eliminated. but a well-prepared militia would be a giant step forward.

Out of the mouths of babes

A group of young children was asked about school shootings. They agreed that armed guards would make them feel safer. The idea hasn't gotten much traction with grownups. Maybe politicians should listen.

Kudos to Christie

New Jersey is so fortunate to have a take-charge governor. By comparison, when Hurricane Katrina hit the governor there displayed sickening ineptitude.

Gov. Christie has been Johnny on the spot. Despite unbelievable wind and water damage, he has marshaled all available forces, government and non-government. All will not be well for months, maybe years, but unlike so many bureaucrats, he is effective.

God is a title

By definition, the word "God" is a title, not a name.

In the Jewish language, His name is WHWY.

The Jewish people considered that too holy, so they gave other names, for example Adonai, which is just one of the names they have called God.

As far as religion, well religion is man-made. Many of those, including myself, believe it is a relationship and have faith in the belief that God does exist. Many of us know this by the prayers that have been answered that man cannot answer.

I myself have prayed for 30 years for three people and all of these (prayers) have been answered.

Others as well, where it was not possible for even doctors to cure, the people we prayed for were cured all because of faith, not religion.

As far as the forefathers being Christians or not is not really known, except by what may have been written by them. I, including many other people, place our faith and belief in knowing what has happened and what will happen. Just look around the world and hear what is going on.

The Middle East crisis is a prophecy written in the Bible. The people turning away from the Bible and turning against their own families: this, too, is in the Bible.

There are many examples that I can write that have already been written in the Bible and they are happening right now.

Social Security now called benefit payment

Have you noticed your Social Security check is now referred to as a "federal benefit payment" by some?

This isn't a benefit, it's earned income. Not only did we all contribute to Social Security, but our employers did, too.

It totaled 15 percent of our income, before taxes. If you averaged $30,000 per year over your working life, that's close to $180,000 invested in Social Security.

If you calculate the future value of your monthly investment in Social Security ($375/month, including both your and your employer's contributions) at a meager 1 percent interest rate compounded monthly, after 40 years of working you'd have more than $1.3 million saved.

This is your personal investment.

Upon retirement, if you took out only 3 percent per year, you'd receive $39,318 per year, or $3,277 per month. That's almost three times more than today's average Social Security benefit of $1,230 per month, according to the Social Security Administration (Google it, it's a fact).

And your retirement fund would last more than 33 years (until you're 98, if you retire at age 65).

I can only imagine how much better most average-income people could live in retirement if our government had just invested our money in low-risk, interest-earning accounts.

Instead, the folks in Washington pulled off a bigger ponzi scheme than Bernie Madoff ever did. They took our money and used it elsewhere. They "forgot" that it was OUR money they were taking. They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them.

And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently, they've told us the money won't support us for very much longer. But is it our fault they misused our investments?

And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit," as if we never worked to earn every penny of it. Just because they "borrowed" the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity. Let's take a stand.

We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government. Then call it what it is: our earned retirement income.

You are hurting Iranian citizens

It's very hard for me to think that Iran would be the enemy of the United States.

As I remember, Japan and Germany were.

What has Iran done to the world that it has to go through these sanctions?

I don't agree with Iranian policy, nor the government of Iran, but the sanctions hurt ordinary Iranian citizens, in or outside Iran. By that I mean, if I have a personal matter with my next door neighbor, everyone has to suffer?

If Israel has problem with Iran, well, let those two solve the problem. Don't impose it on everyone else.

Iran helped the U.S. to find the terrorists locations back in 2001 and cooperates with the world, and for many centuries the gasoline you put in your cars came from Iran.

Buying guns for your kids

I can't believe what I just saw down the street from my house.

This is Christmas day, and there are five or six or seven kids down the street with automatic toy rifles, shooting beans or something.

They all have masks on to protect their eyes and are shooting each other up and this is less than two weeks after all those babies got killed in that school.

What were their parents thinking when they bought them all these toy rifles?

Rat, tat, tat, tat, tat, tat!

Why are you silent?

We really are the enemy. Pogo was right. We have met the enemy and the enemy is us.

We, with our interest in all sports, have allowed the politicians to cement themselves into all the positions of power and influence to where they are unassailable.

As long as they cater to the business interests, foreign or domestic, we are helpless.

In my perspective, the bottom of the pile, elections are a charade, along with the legislating. The media is a rubber stamp and worse, a moronic distraction.

The only intelligent thought seems to come from movies, such as "Wall Street" and "Broadcast News" and a few others.

Somewhere in the upper echelons of power, there must be a few people who love what this country used to stand for.

I can't understand their silence.
