BREVARD -- The Brevard Sheriff's All-Stars will face the Harlem Ambassadors in a heated game of charity basketball this February to raise funds for a local organization.
On Sunday, Feb. 24, Viera High School will host the game, in which everyone from the Brevard community is encouraged to attend, organizers said.
For the second year in a row, the Friends of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard will host the game to raise funding for the services of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard. Last year's event raised $20,000 for the organization.
The Harlem Ambassadors is an internationally acclaimed basketball team that plays a unique game that consists of comedic elements and entertaining antics.
Delores Spearman, event chairwoman, along with Peta Adovasio, said the organization hopes to make the game an annual event for the community.
"Everyone has a great time (at the game). It will involve schools in the area, and we will get a number of students to turn out," she said. "It really helps the center and its programs. They have services for child-abuse victims and other children, and getting these proceeds will help further services and projects for the advocacy center."
Ms. Spearman said the event is still looking for all levels of sponsorship, and the title sponsor slot for the event is still open for the event.
In a release about the event, Ms. Spearman said that the title sponsor will have their name on the event tickets, which will be a great marketing tool.
Ms. Spearman said members of the organization first came into contact with the Harlem Ambassadors after searching for a way to have a fundraiser.
"We knew they were out there, and we received a flier once, so we ran with it and had a fundraiser," she said. "This is more family-oriented and involves a lot of members in the community."
The game begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24, at Viera High School.
The Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard is a program of the Space Coast Health Foundation and is a multi-agency collaboration of child welfare professions, who intervene in severe cases of child neglect and abuse in Brevard.
The Friends of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard is a nonprofit organization that supports the work of the Children's Advocacy Center of Brevard.
