MARTIN COUNTY --

The Stuart-based nonprofit, Artists for a Cause received a $500 grant from the Arts & Cultural Alliance of St. Lucie to help fund A4AC's cultural programs and events.

Artists for a Cause is only one of five arts-related organizations to receive funding from the Alliance through its state of the arts opportunity grant program.

The grant helps Artists for a Cause cover the costs of its annual Dance for Food event, which was held in the weeks prior to Thanksgiving. The event is a way for the organization to fulfill its goal of addressing community needs, while supporting arts and culture at the same time.

Through the Dance for Food performances, more than 1,000 pounds of food were collected to feed hungry families on the Treasure Coast and the Palm Beaches.

"We're thrilled to be one of the first recipients of this new grant program through the Alliance. They are a strong advocate and voice for arts organizations in St. Lucie County and we're proud to be a part of their efforts to nurture and promote the arts in our community," said Terry Barber, founder and executive director of A4AC.

The grant awards were presented to arts organizations that demonstrate artistic merit, community involvement and administrative competence.

Other grant recipients were Art Mundo, Bluebird Educational Productions, Treasure Coast Art Association and the Treasure Coast Photography Club.

"The Alliance is pleased to be able to award Artists for a Cause this grant for their commitment and efforts to use the arts in such an impactful way to fight hunger and positively impact our community through their Dance for Food performances," said Richard Gabel, Arts & Cultural Alliance of St. Lucie executive director.

Artists for a Cause is a national, nonprofit organization that improves communities using art as a catalyst to achieve results. Some programs help artists and charities get the most out of their collaboration, while others produce results directly by feeding the poor, healing the sick or solving other problems through artistic solutions.

Current programs include Dance for Food, therapeutic music day, A4AC scholarships and clubs, artist auction packages and benefit concerts. all of which improve communities through artistic endeavors.

Among the organizations receiving support from Artists for a Cause are the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County, Helping People Succeed, Treasure Coast Food Bank, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, House of Hope, Sailfish Point Foundation, Arc Broward, Farmworker Coordinating Council of Palm Beach and more, as well as hundreds of artists in every genre.
