PALM CITY --
A dedication ceremony on Dec. 16 marked the opening of Judy's Care Center, a medical facility and care center located at Hobe Sound Animal Protection League's headquarters.
The new facility will enable visiting veterinarian, Dr. Patricia Reis, to provide basic medical treatment for resident cats, as well as offering an isolation area, treatment area, and recovery room for felines in need of ongoing treatment.
Named after principal donor, Judy Schulte, the care center came into being as a result of Ms. Schulte's desire to help the cats and honor her late father, Alvin Spurlock. Mr. Spurlock's cat, Sam, brought him joy and companionship in his final years, and the construction of the care center commemorates the special bond between the two.
Virginia Sherlock, local attorney and president of HSAPL, spoke at the dedication ceremony, as did executive director, Pauline Glover. Judy Schulte cut the ribbon, as guests and a very interested resident cat, Armando, looked on.
Following the ribbon-cutting, guests toured the care center, concluding the afternoon at a reception in the education center.
