INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Those interested in a career in the culinary arts can participate in a hands- on program that teaches students basic cooking, knife skills, safety, sanitation and nutritional facts.
Students who successfully complete the program will have a Florida food handler and food manager certifications. The course will begin on Jan 15 and complete on June 15.
The class meets Tuesday and Thursday from 5-9:30 p.m. and every other Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $1,257 and includes textbooks.
Adult Education is offering a daytime certified nursing assistant course. This is a 215-hour course and students who successfully complete this program are prepared to take the state certification test. Class will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
Class will begin on Jan. 15 and run through March 19 and is held at the Gifford Medical Academy site. Cost is $894. Students should register as soon as possible as space is limited.
Adult Education will offer a 75-hour continuing education phlebotomy course for individuals already working in the medical field in a hands-on position such as home health aide or certified nursing assistant. The course will be held Jan. 22 through April 11 and will meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $329.
The next medical coder/biller class will be offered in January. Class will be held Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Jan.14 and running through June 1. This is a fast-paced class that will require much time and commitment. Cost is $1,779. All students who successfully pass the course and have a high school diploma are eligible to sit for AAPC's national coding exam and billing exam; the exams are not included in the cost of the course.
Adult Education will offer an Excel class on Monday and Wednesday beginning Jan. 14 and running through Feb. 11. Students will attend class from 6-8 p.m. Cost is $68. Sign up now, this class fills up quickly.
Those bothered by arthritis or other aches and pains may benefit from a water exercise. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5 p.m. and 5:15-6:15 p.m. beginning Jan. 15 and running through March 21. Class will be held in Wabasso. Cost is $70.
A basic accounting skills class will include working with debits and credits, an introduction to the accounting equation and the general ledger. The class will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning Jan. 11 and continuing through March 8. Cost is $129.
Adult and Community Education has an ESOL program at Adult Education from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The class is also held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
In addition, citizenship classes are held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Freshmen Learning Center. Cost is $30 per term ($90 per year).
