INDIAN RIVER COUNTY -- Adm. Robert J. Papp, 24th commandant of the Coast Guard will speak at the Navy League dinner on Jan. 10 in Vero Beach.
Adm. Papp is a 1975 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy and has commanded four of the six cutters upon which he has served: Red Beech, Papaw, Forward and the training Barque Eagle.
Adm. Papp served as the commander of a task unit during Operation Able Manner augmented U.S. Navy forces during Operation Uphold Democracy off the coast of Haiti in 1994. As a flag officer, Adm. Papp most recently served as Atlantic area commander following on tours as chief of staff, Ninth District commander, and director of reserve and training.
The dinner cost is $28 per person and will be held at The Plaza, 884 17th St., Vero Beach, located behind Walgreen's on U.S. 1. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. Dinner selections are roasted pork loin or chicken Marsala. Dress attire is coat and tie. The public is welcome.
