Nonprofit collecting donations for shooting victims
The United Way is accepting donations to aid the families and community affected by the tragedy in Newtown, Conn.

Weekly nature series to begin
St. Lucie County's Environmental Resources Department's free weekly winter nature series' guided educational hikes will begin in Jan. 6 and run through May 4.
Anyone wishing to participate in these unique nature programs needs to register at least one day in advance. Programs are free, but limited to the first 15 people.

Brunch fundraiser taking place Jan. 27
Join the Friends of the A.E. Backus Museum for a Key West-style getaway at an oceanside brunch on Jan. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. at the new Inn at Ocean Village.
The A.E. Backus Museum is a not-for-profit arts organization. All donations to the museum are deductible.
Tickets are $45 for museum members and $50 for non-members.
