The PNC Foundation, which receives its principal funding from the PNC Financial Services Group, has awarded the Boys & Girls Club a $10,000 grant for its CORE impact program that targets areas of academic success and healthy lifestyles for club members.

Additionally, PNC Bank has further enhanced the relationship by donating $8,000 to support the club's youth development programming.

The CORE impact program reaches 150 club members at the Chuck Hill Unit in Port St. Lucie ages 5-18 who come from a variety of backgrounds.

The majority of members are low income with 80 percent on free or reduced lunches.

The program focuses on homework time, high-yield learning activities, substance abuse education, healthy living and active learning activities. The Chuck Hill Unit's doors were opened just more than a year ago and there is already a waiting list.

In a time when hundreds of children and teens in St. Lucie County are not receiving the guidance they need to graduate from high school and become responsible adults, the Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County is there to help.

The club serves as a safe haven to avoid the effects of violence, gangs and drug use, which would not be possible without the help of community supporters such as PNC.

It costs the Boys & Girls Club $1,000 per child to have them as members in the afterschool program per year. Costs are kept as low as $10 per year for members.

PNC's advocacy has enabled children in need to participate in the club's vital programs and has given them a safe place to learn and grow after school.

The Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the youth of the community.
