MARTIN COUNTY --

The Audubon of Martin County is hosting its "Bird's-Eye View" photography contest to provide an opportunity for photographers to showcase Florida's biological diversity via photography.

"Our Audubon chapter's goal is to protect and conserve Martin County's natural environment, with a special focus on birds, through education, advocacy and public awareness," said Fran Stewart, president of Audubon of Martin County.

"By hosting this contest, we are encouraging people to explore and connect with the natural beauty around them and share it with others through their photographs."

Contest categories include: birds, wilderness landscapes, flora and fauna, cell-phone photography and student entries.

Photographers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate. Judges will be selected from some of the best photographers in the community. This is the first year Audubon has included a cell-phone photography category to the contest.

"Even professional photographers agree that the best camera is the one that you have with you when you need to capture that special moment," said John Nelson, coordinator of the photography contest.

Entries will be accepted online at www.birdhero.com from Jan. 10-Feb. 10. Fees are $5 per entry for Audubon Chapter members and $15 per entry for nonmembers.

Prizes will be awarded for the winning selections in each category, with $300 cash prizes in the best of show and people's choice awards.

The people's choice award will be given to the photograph that is selected best of show among gallery and visitors to the contest website at www.birdhero.com.

The winning photographs will be displayed at the Blue Water Editions Gallery in Port Salerno from Feb. 27 through March 7.
