The City of Ormond Beach Leisure Services Department is now accepting registration for a three-day Umpire Clinic, which is being offered by the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School for ages 16 through adult.
The clinics, beginner and advanced, are being taught by major and minor league umpires on the Wendelstedt staff.
The clinics will be from 9 a.m. to noon, three consecutive Saturday mornings, Jan. 19, 26 and Feb. 2, in Ormond Beach.
Participants are to attend all three dates. Clinics will cover basic fundamentals of a two-man system, plate work, the strike zone and other encountered rules. Advanced umpire training will focus on the obstruction and interference rule.
This clinic is free; however, registration is required to be completed and turned in to the Leisure Services Registration Office by noon, Jan. 17. Minors can only be registered by their parents or court-ordered legal guardian.

Daytona International Speedway will host a three-day test session with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams on Jan. 10-12, in advance of the 55th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 24.
Testing is scheduled 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily on Jan. 10 to 12. There is a Fan Fest event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday night, Jan. 10.
During pre-season Thunder Fan Fest, guests can enjoy autograph sessions, driver fan forums, show cars and displays, music and a photo opportunity with the 2013 Harley J. Earl Daytona 500 trophy. Pre-season Thunder ticket holders receive free tent camping inside Turns 3 and 4 for all three days of testing and fans can also watch each day's testing at no cost from a section of the Oldfield Grandstands.

Advanced reservations are available (limited availability) for the autograph sessions by calling 1-800-PITSHOP or online at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com. Among the autograph wristbands available in advance include 2012 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers, Danica Patrick and past Daytona 500 champions. Additional driver autograph sessions will be held on Thursday with wristbands available the day of the event.
Field staff named
The Daytona Cubs recently named its Field Staff for the 2013 Season. Dave Keller will take the helm as manager after Brian Harper and Buddy Bailey led the club over the past two seasons, Mariano Duncan will take over for Desi Wilson as hitting coach, Storm Davis replaces Marty Mason as pitching coach, and Pete Fagan will return for his third season as trainer.
Dave Keller takes over managerial duties in Daytona Beach after serving as Iowa's hitting coach in 2012. In his 10th season with the organization, Mr. Keller was an assistant on the major league coaching staff in 2011. Prior to 2011, Mr. Keller served as the Cubs minor league hitting coordinator from 2004-2010 and boasts 26 years of Minor League coaching and managerial experience. Mr. Keller is a former first baseman who played professionally in the Reds' organization from three seasons (1982-84), batting .289 with 22 home runs and 108 RBIs.
