Lyonia Environmental Center plans Sunday program
Lyonia Environmental Center will hold popcorn and a movie at 2 p.m. Dec. 23, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona.
Learn about the Floridan Aquifer as you watch a free showing of "Water's Journey -- The Hidden Rivers of Florida," which brings to light an impending international crisis. Popcorn is free. Moviegoers can purchase bottled water, candy and chips.

Board members needed
The city of Deltona is looking for two individuals interested in serving on the Firefighters' Pension Plan, Board of Trustees.
The two citizen members will be full voting members appointed by the City Commission.
Individuals appointed to this board serve four-year terms in a non-paid capacity
The Firefighters' Pension Plan, Board of Trustees meets on an as needed monthly basis at 5 p.m., and quarterly, at 3 p.m. in the City Hall second floor conference room, 2345 Providence Blvd.
Individuals appointed to this board must be residents of the city of Deltona.
Deadline for receipt of applications is Dec. 28.

Flu shots available at health department
The Volusia County Health Department is offering flu vaccines at its health centers in Daytona Beach, DeLand, New Smyrna Beach and Deltona.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people get vaccinated against influenza as soon as 2012-2013 flu season vaccines becomes available in their community.
The prices are $25 for flu, $45 for high-dose flu zone (65 and older) and $65 for pneumonia. Medicare Part B, non-HMO, is accepted.

County administrative offices, libraries to close Christmas Eve
Volusia County administrative offices and libraries will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
On New Year's Eve, administrative offices will be open normal hours and library branches will close at 5 p.m.
Food addicts support group to meet
Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous can help those who suffer from food obsession, overeating, undereating and bulimia. There are no dues, fees or weigh-ins at FA meetings. There are six weekly meetings in Volusia County.

No Votran service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day
Votran will not operate bus service Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, and New Year's Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1, in the Greater Daytona Beach Area, Southeast and West Volusia County areas.
Votran night service will close two hours early Christmas Eve, at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24.

Garbage pick up changed for holiday
There will be no garbage, recycling and yard trash collection for residents of unincorporated Volusia County on Christmas and New Year's days.
Unincorporated areas are outside city limits.
Collection days normally scheduled between Dec. 25 and Jan. 4 will be the following day. For instance, Wednesday collections will be on Thursdays.
The Tomoka Landfill and West Volusia Transfer Station will be closed Christmas and New Year's days.

Drivers safety class planned
AARP will conduct a driver safety class for seniors from 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Jan. 15, and Wednesday, Jan 16, at the Deltona Senior Center, 980 Lakeshore Drive, Deltona.
The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Reservations with instructors are required.

The Council on Aging of Volusia County will host a dementia caregiver support group for nonprofessional caregivers at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Orange City United Methodist Church, 396 University Ave,
Orange City.

Volusia County's Pet Vet Cruiser offers low-cost spaying and neutering services to residents of unincorporated parts of the county and the cities of DeLand and South Daytona.
